The Enchantments Box, named after a region of Washington States Cascade mountain range, was designed within the constraints of making a home for a variety of crystals and rocks. This medium-sized box holds even more fine details than the crystals it will ultimately be holding. It features a crystal clear glass lid, bordered by a thin strip of Wenge wood from Central Africa, which is surrounded by a mesmerizing Opal inlay. The viewers eye is drawn to the front of the box where various styles of recycled of inlaid stained glass accentuates the warm chatoyancy in the grain of this beautiful Sapele wood. The inside of this box features 3 sliding, removable trays with thumbnail catches for easy lifting. They are crafted out of wenge and curly maple, using several joinery methods: rabbits, miters, dados, and pressure-fit half laps. Under these trays lie a symmetrical 7x3 grid to house even more crystals; constructed out of curly maple, again using pressure-fit half-laps and miters. Finally, the lid is secured using a hidden wooden hinge technique perfected and taught by Rob Cosman.
