My name is James Nelson, and I am from Woodinville, Washington, but I am currently living in San Diego. I have been practicing my craft in woodworking and furniture design for 8 years. My fine woodworking pieces are created with the intent of holding the viewers gaze and engaging with their sense of touch. This is achieved through designing the piece with varying wood species to create a stunning and unique composition, as well as using a combination of different design styles, mediums, and techniques to bring fine detail and intricacies into the design. Light and shadow also play a large role in the experience of my pieces, which is always a considering factor in regard to their final form. My work is further influenced by my frequent time spent out in nature and wilderness, as well as through my architectural studies.
I design and construct pieces for myself, for sale online and in person at art shows, as well as working with individuals who are interested in a unique commissioned piece.
I am currently studying Furniture Design and Interior Architecture within the School of Art and Design at San Diego State University.
